Don’t you love it when you order something with medium expectations and then the product just stuns you? I wanted an ornament for this year to celebrate our engagement but to also mention where it took place. I found this one, but the photo online did not do it justice. I’m so pleased and can’t wait to hang this on our tree 🌲
I saw this meme last week. One of the PhD accounts I follow posted it, and when I read it, I remember thinking it was so apt. In that moment, I mourned yester-year's lack of progress, my pitfalls, all that I should have done differently, felt depressed for 30 minutes, and then got back to working. Today, though, I feel differently. I revised part of a chapter today that I'd not read in over a year. The last time I read it I was very much under the impression that it was crap, that I was crap - you know, the usual imposter syndrome self-dialogue. But, though I made many changes, the work was so solid, y'all. So, nuanced and fascinating. So thoughtful and well-researched. Tonight, I'm toasting this glass of red wine to Spring of 2018 Christie, who despite thinking otherwise did some damn good academic work. It's so true that each significant, imperfect step leads you onward. And if anyone is wondering what stage I'm at in the PhD program/thesis writing, my current program year on the official Uni website now reads "awaiting thesis." So, yeah... it's the final countdown.
